Homestead Highlights

The Kajugiras practice mixed farming for their livelihood. Activities inlcude:

The Kajugira homestead is conveniently located near many local attractions and Mbarara Town. The homestead is a great place to experience local farming and relax in a beautiful tranquil setting.


Location

The Kajugira homestead is located along the Masaka Mbarara highway as you approach Biharwe trading center and Igongo Cultural Museum. It is 19 kilometres from Mbarara Town. The home sits on a beautiful hill and is visible from the main road. Other nearby places of interest include Lake Mburo National Park and Rwenjeru Camp site. Visitors can also visit other COBATI-affiliated homesteads during their stay.

  Host Family


Kajugira Family

Your hosts are the Kajugira family, Dick and Daina, who are prominent  farmers. They breed and sell dairy cows and hybrid goats, grow perennial crops, and maintain a banana plantation. The Kajugiras are a very hospitable couple with grown up children who no longer live at home. Diana is a gifted traditional bead artisan; she makes beautiful beaded crafts and baskets associated with the Ankole long horned cow culture. Visitors can arrange a beading lesson inside Daina's beautifully furnished craft hut. The family loves welcoming visitors to their home.

 Activities


A visit to the Kajugira Homestead avails visitors the opportunity to experience local family hospitality along with an opportunity to participate in some great activities.

For overnight guests, there is no additional cost for the activities below as they are part of the family package activities. (exception: guided walk to the community museum and camping site not included). For daytime guests, there is a cost for each activity.

  • Farm chores including cow and goat milking, gardening, repairing farm fence, spraying ticks off animals, watering the herd
  • Cooking and enjoying fresh organic food grown at the home farm
  • The homestead has a beautiful garden where visitors who seek peace and quiet can enjoy a cup of African tea while reading a book or appreciating nature
  • Guided walking tour of Rwenjeru Camping Site and Igongo Cultural Museum

One night’s accommodation: UGX: 30,000 per person per day
(includes bed, breakfast, lunch, dinner, water, tea/coffee)
